BIO

SHIT J SAYS:

  • It's important to demonstrate care by what we do, not by what we feel or say, and to exercise the power of a growth mindset and a happiness advantage.

  • Leadership is about enabling expected results, not control. If team members feel safe to set boundaries, they will be more focused and deliver on their commitments.

  • Bosses “hold people accountable.” The phrase itself sounds like they are physically accosting someone. When they don’t get the results they expect, they get frustrated because of the negative impact this situation will have on their success. So they start “holding people accountable” and looking for someone to blame. It can be brutal.

A culture of accountability requires the team to master three disciplines:

    • Public self-evaluation and improvement

    • Peer accountability in the form of feedback and coaching

    • A leader that has mastered the ability to deliver critical feedback productively

  • Communicating your daily progress is an extremely valuable habit to develop—even if you’re just communicating it to yourself. Focusing on your progress on a daily basis will show you that each day is an opportunity for growth and forward movement

  • To me, leadership is about creating a culture of listeners, collaborators, challengers, and decision-makers. Leadership is about enabling your team to self-actualize by giving them a voice and engaging their creativity.

  • If leadership is so great for self-actualizing everyone on the team, what about the leaders themselves? How can they participate and benefit?

Wouldn’t it be great if they actively listened and challenged your assumptions to ensure we have a 360-degree view of the situation?

If you want a high-performing team, there will be a time when each member needs to be a great follower and each member needs to be a great leader.
